Jan's hairdressing experience dates back to 1971 when she began her career in the Brisbane CBD where she worked for five years before opening her first salon in 1976 with her husband, Tony Mitchell. Jan shares the role of Principal at Tony Mitchell Hair with Tony. She has long been successful in both competition styling and training the salon's staff for success in competitions. She channels her efforts into developing the junior staff to serve customers' needs and desires as professionally as possible.

Jan no longer works on the floor of the salon.
